More rain from Jan. 10-11 than average monthly rainfall for the month: PUB
From Jan. 10 to Jan. 11, a total of 255.2mm of rainfall was recorded.
Due to the ongoing monsoon surge, Singapore experienced prolonged rain since Jan. 10, 2024, with moderate to heavy downpours in many areas, national water agency PUB said in a statement posted to Facebook on Jan. 12.
From Jan. 10 to Jan. 11, a total of 255.2mm of rainfall was recorded.
This is more than Singapore's average monthly rainfall of 222.4mm in January.
Rainy weather is expected to persist until Jan. 13.
Flood risk
On Jan. 9, PUB issued an alert stating that a monsoon surge was expected to bring rainy and windy conditions to Singapore from Jan. 10 to Jan. 13.
As such, heavy downpours could temporarily overwhelm canals and drains, leading to flash floods, PUB said on Facebook.
PUB issued flood risk warnings for a few locations including Jalan Seaview, the junction of Mountbatten Road and Tanjong Katong South Road, as well as Jalan Pokok Serunai where the heavy rain resulted in high water levels in drains and canals.
Flooding occurred along a stretch of Jalan Seaview on the evening of Jan. 10 due to heavy rain coinciding with a high tide of 2.8m, PUB said.
This temporarily overwhelmed the adjacent canal and surrounding roadside drains.
PUB's Quick Response Teams were deployed to flood-risk locations, including Jalan Seaview, to assist residents.
The teams pumped water from flooded roads and distributed flood protection devices to residents.
