Man gets what looks like half-eaten McDonald’s burger from Siglap outlet
The incident appears to be "an isolated case of mischief", said McDonald's.
A man and his wife placed a takeaway order for a McSpicy burger meal at the McDonald's outlet at Siglap Community Club at around 7pm on Jan. 4, 2025.
However, after they returned home and opened the box, they were shocked to find a burger that appeared to have already been bitten into.
To support their claim, the couple shared a photo of their order with Mothership, which showed a portion of the burger missing.
Couple 'stunned' by burger
Describing the burger as "a ridiculous sight", the man said he and his wife were "stunned for some time" as they were not sure what their next course of action should be.
At first, the couple pondered about letting go of the incident, as they thought an employee at the outlet could have made "an honest mistake" by giving them a colleague's half-eaten meal.
However, they were also concerned about the possibility that it could be "a malicious attempt by an irresponsible staff member".
Eventually, the couple decided to bring the burger back to the outlet and report the incident to the manager.
Complained to manager
On the way to the outlet, the couple thought about how to phrase their encounter so that the outlet manager would not think of them as "pulling a prank", recounted the man.
When they reached, they decided to cut the chase and informed the manager about their experience candidly.
In response, the manager apparently told the couple that he would check the CCTV surveillance camera and investigate the incident.
According to the man, other staff at the outlet all appeared "shocked" when the manager informed them about the incident.
Manager 'offered free burger & fries'
The man shared that later on, the outlet manager noted down his name and number.
The manager also apparently offered the couple a new McSpicy burger based on their initial order and Twister fries for free.
According to the man, the manager also "packed the order himself this time around".
However, as of Jan. 8, he claimed he had yet to hear back from the manager regarding the outcome of the investigation.
Despite the incident, the man said he will still patronise the outlet in the future, as it is the most convenient McDonald's restaurant he can visit on foot from his home.
'Isolated case of mischief': McDonald's
In response to Mothership's queries, McDonald's Singapore said it had launched an investigation into the incident.
"Upon investigation, McDonald's confirmed that all processes for meal preparations were adhered to," read the statement.
Based on this finding, the fast food chain stated that the incident appeared to be "an isolated case of mischief".
"Nevertheless, as a [gesture of] goodwill, the restaurant replaced the item for the customer," added McDonald's.
