Man, 19, ditches motorbike & flees roadblock on foot, arrested for suspected drug-related offenses

A 19-year-old man, who had been riding a motorbike on Jan. 3 when he encountered a traffic police roadblock.

In an attempt to escape, the man abandoned his motorbike and attempted to flee.

Responding to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that the Traffic Police (TP) had been conducting a roadblock along Lavender street on Jan. 3, when officers had spotted a motorcyclist attempting to flee on foot at approximately 11:25pm.

Several police officers who caught sight of his attempt chased after him.

The man was subsequently arrested on the first floor of Aperia Mall, and conveyed conscious to the hospital.

A TP officer sustained mild injuries during the pursuit, said the police, adding that the officer was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

The man is also suspected of drug-related offences and the case has been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).

Police investigations are ongoing.

Penalties

The offence of evasion of a roadblock under the Police Force Act 2004 carries a fine up to S$10,000, or a jail term of up to seven years, or both.

For drug possession, the penalty for possessing controlled drugs is a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment, or a fine of $20,000 or both.

However, if one is convicted of drug trafficking, they could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.
