Man, 30, arrested after BMW in Yishun smashed with trash can & mahjong table
The car's windshield was cracked.
A resident of Block 794 Yishun Ring Road was taking a shower on Jan. 14 night when he suddenly heard a loud thud and a man yelling downstairs.
When the resident looked out of his window, he was shocked to see a man, who was topless and without footwear, allegedly smashing a BMW car at the open-air car park, reported 8world News.
The man apparently did so using a mahjong table, trash can, and stereo piece.
Although the man allegedly refused to cooperate even after police officers were called to the scene, he was eventually subdued and arrested.
Man 'appeared extremely angry'
Speaking to 8world, the resident said the incident took place at around 10pm on Jan. 14.
At the time, the man, who was dressed only in a pair of cropped pants, appeared "extremely angry" and allegedly "smashed the car forcefully".
"He smashed the car with the mahjong table several times and continued doing so with a trash can and stereo speaker," said the resident.
A video taken by an onlooker showed the man walking towards the car before hurling an elongated black object, believed to be a stereo speaker, at the hood of the car.
Residents alerted the police
As the man's actions created a significant amount of noise, many residents of the public housing block alerted the police, reported 8world.
One woman residing on the lower floors of the block deliberated on whether to call the police but was told that someone else had already done so.
Her account was corroborated by another resident, who said the police informed them that multiple reports were lodged.
Taken away by police
A witness told 8world that when police officers arrived at the scene, the man was still "very emotional" and allegedly refused to cooperate even after they tried to talk to him.
The police managed to subdue the man after a short stand-off and brought him into a police vehicle, recounted the witness.
The witness also surmised that the man appeared drunk.
Damages to car
When an 8world reporter visited the car park on Jan. 16 morning, the damaged BMW was still parked there.
The car's hood was dented and scratched, and its windshield cracked.
A trash can was seen nearby, along with a legless mahjong table, several wooden blocks, and two stereo speakers.
When the reporter visited the man's unit, an occupant declined to be interviewed, adding that she did not know what had transpired on Jan. 14.
Police statement
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed they received a call for assistance regarding the incident at around 10:40pm on Tuesday.
The man, 30, was conveyed conscious to the hospital.
He is being investigated for mischief, causing annoyance to the public when drunk, voluntarily causing hurt, using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty, and using abusive language against a public servant.
Police investigations are ongoing.
