5 dead after M'sia boy, 16, allegedly loses control of car, hit 2 cars & 2 motorcycles

Five people died after a boy in Malaysia allegedly lost control of the car he was driving and crashed into other motorists on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at about 12:50pm.

Five dead

Four victims, three male and one female, were pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed, and another victim died while receiving treatment, The Star reported.

The incident, which occurred in Kuching, Sarawak, has made headlines in Malaysia.

Two teenagers in car died

Malaysian police confirmed in an update on the case on Jan. 15 that two of the five victims killed on Jalan Teo Kui Seng-Stutong Baru were 16-year-old teenagers.

They were in the car driven by the teenager allegedly responsible for the fatal accident.

Two teenagers survived

The teenage driver who caused the crash and another teenage girl in the car survived.

The teenage driver sustained neck injuries and has been detained for driving without a licence, while the teenage girl sustained serious injuries.

3 others on the road died

Initial investigations showed that the car veered into the opposite lane and collided with two cars and two motorcycles.

Two people in one of the cars hit by the teen's car died in the incident, while the driver of the other car was safe.

One motorcycle rider was killed, while the other escaped, police confirmed.

The incident was being investigated as a case of reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

Malaysian police urged parents and guardians to actively educate their children on road safety in the wake of the accident.
