‘New Year just started, I hope you will choose to be kind’: S'pore woman tracks lost iPhone 16 to JB, appeals for its return
She left the phone in a restroom cubicle in PLQ.
A woman who lost her iPhone in the women's restroom at Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ) on Jan. 1 took to Facebook, appealing to the person who found it to return her phone.
On Jan. 2, Oriero Angelyn posted in the Facebook group, Complaint Singapore, hoping to get help in recovering her phone.
She shared photos of the tracking app on her Apple Watch, revealing that her phone appeared to be in Johor Bahru at the time she checked.
Left her iPhone in the restroom
In her Facebook post, Oriero explained that she accidentally left her pink iPhone 16 Plus on top of the tissue dispenser in the restroom around 9pm on New Year's Day.
She returned to the cubicle a few minutes later, when she realised her phone was missing.
However, by that time, her iPhone was already gone.
Oriero mentioned that she asked a cleaner if she had seen the phone or if anyone had turned it in, but the cleaner replied that she had not seen it.
Apple Watch tracking app revealed iPhone had gone to JB
That evening, Oriero was able to trace her phone's location using the tracking app on her Apple Watch.
The app showed that the person who took it had travelled to Johor Bahru.
In the comments on her post, Oriero said that she had tried calling her phone, but the person who took it did not answer.
Once the phone reached Johor Bahru, the line became "unavailable".
Oriero also shared that she left a message and an alternative contact number for the finder, but had yet to receive any response.
Commenters encourage her to lodge report
Several users advised her to file a police report and notify mall management about her lost phone.
Others suggested she travel to Johor Bahru, report the theft to local authorities, and ask for their help in visiting the person’s address.
A few commenters said that hopes of recovering the phone at all were slim once it crossed into Malaysia.
In response to a few comments, Oriero told users that she had activated the "Lost" mode on her iPhone, ensuring that the finder could not access any of her personal information.
Appeal to the finder to return her phone
Addressed to the person who took her iPhone, Oriero asked the finder to show compassion and return her phone, which she had worked hard to buy.
She wrote, “You must be working in Paya Lebar Quarter or [were a] last-minute shopper as you were still in the mall while it [was almost] closing time. The New Year just started, I hope you will choose to be kind. I bought it with my hard-earned money and I know you understand how it feels.”
