JJ Lin has been a very busy man.

The last we saw of him performing in Singapore was in November 2022, when he opened his "JJ20" world tour in Singapore at the National Stadium.

A little over two years and 75 concerts later, we're back at the same venue again, this time for the first stop of his "JJ20 Final Lap" world tour.

As part of the final leg of his tour, he's announced 14 other cities he'll be headed to, including Beijing, London, Los Angeles and Sydney. His show dates have been announced up to March, and he'll probably be able to wrap up the tour before he hits the three-year mark of non-stop touring, where he'll hopefully be able to get some well-deserved rest.

Or maybe work on his next album.

But back to the concert.

At the Singapore stop, Lin's singing was flawless as always, and we could appreciate the way he rearranged some of his classic hits such as "Cao Cao" and "Xiao Jiu Wo".

What we appreciated even more was how he stripped down the entire show to let the audience revel in the music. While he still had multiple outfit changes, backup dancers, and even a surprise announcement about how he's signed fellow Singaporean Jasmine Sokko to his label, his voice and songs left the strongest impression.

Case in point: a few songs in, we overheard a male concertgoer (who was probably a plus one) telling his companion that Lin "sounds better than when [he] heard him on the radio". Towards the end of the show, the same person asked the same companion for the titles of the tracks that Lin was belting out "to add to [his] Spotify playlist".

Another thing we — who don't dare to proclaim ourselves as more than casual listeners of Lin's music — felt he did well was to give his fans an all-rounded experience that extended beyond the concert.

Like how he took the opportunity to introduce the limited edition Final Lap beverage at the Miracle Coffee store at Marina Bay Sands (MBS), where he also pushed out a keychain of a cute fluffy green chicken named Kiku.

Kiku was also brought on stage with Lin during the concert, as he sat the chicken down at the side of his keyboard during his piano segment. The product placement was so subtle that you wouldn't notice unless you know of Kiku's existence.

Very tasteful. Just like his entire show. We like.

Congratulations! You have made it to the end of the article (whether by speed-scrolling or otherwise). This alone qualifies you to apply for the role of an Editorial Intern (Nova) at Mothership. Click here to find out more.
