Dragon dance performance during reunion dinner at S'pore restaurant goes south, diner injured
Treatment was provided shortly after.

A dragon dance performance during a reunion dinner service at a restaurant in Singapore on Jan. 28 ended in a mishap, leaving a diner injured with a deep gash on his forehead.
The accident, which occurred at Gim Seng Heng Seafood Restaurant along Sin Ming Drive, was due to part of the dragon's body entangling with the ceiling fan.

In a clip of the accident, the performers could be seen lifting the dragon's head before raising its body as well.

A video sent in by a Mothership reader showed a performer slowly lifting the body up using a metal rod, which was swept away suddenly.
Loud audible gasps could be heard when the dragon’s body apparently struck the fan and got entangled.

Metal rods attached to the dragon's body were flung towards the diners seated at their tables as the fan continued to spin.
Diners appeared stunned, unsure if the act was part of the performance.
Shortly after, a person at the scene shouted that a man had been hit and was bleeding, reported Shin Min Daily News.

"It was an accident"
When Shin Min interviewed Chen (transliteration), the owner of the restaurant on Jan. 29, he said the incident occurred during the first round of reunion dinners, scheduled from 5:30pm to 8pm, with 50 tables per round.
The dragon dance performance had occurred nearing the end of the dinner service — during the second last course — at approximately 7pm, said Chen.
Sharing that it was the first time he had engaged the dragon dance troupe meant to create an auspicious and celebratory atmosphere, Chen expressed his shock and disappointment at the accident.
"This year, we built a stage, hired an emcee and invited the performers to celebrate the New Year." he added.
"I never imagined something like that would happen"
Treatment provided immediately
"The performer may have lost focus momentarily and accidentally caused the dragon to be entangled," said Chen.
Chen also shared that he was aware of the injured diner — a man in his 40s — and said treatment was provided shortly after.
According to Shin Min, the Singapore Wee Ghee Athletic Association, which is responsible for the troupe, declined to comment, stating that the accident happened merely due to "size issues".
Mothership has reached out to Gim Seng Heng Restaurant and Wee Ghee Athletic Association for comments.
