If you've passed by Stevens, Newton, Little India, Downtown, Telok Ayer, and Bencoolen MRT stations along the Downtown Line (DTL) in the last two months, you might have noticed a fragrant scent on your commute.

According to SBS Transit, the operator of DTL, the scent was part of its collaboration with Lynk Fragrances, a Singapore-based scent company, which took place from late November to the end of December 2024.

A light mist of the scent was released from diffusers built within the blue standees at the stations' platforms, which read:

"The first scented MRT station. Your journey just got better!"

Aimed to 'liven passengers' festive spirit': SBS Transit

In response to Mothership's queries, SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu said that the initiative was part of its efforts "to make journeys a delight" for its passengers.

Dubbed "the first of its kind initiative launched in the MRT network", the collaboration aimed to "create an inviting atmosphere to liven the festive spirit of [its] passengers during the holiday season", stated Wu.

According to Wu, during the selection process for the scent, SBS Transit was  "mindful of passengers who may have sensory sensitivities".

This consideration led the company to partner with Lynk, as their fragrances "are made from natural ingredients".

On its website, Lynk also said that the scent was launched at the stations after "an entire year of approvals and months of discussions and planning".

May release new scent in 2025

Wu added that while the initiative was ongoing, passengers were encouraged to share their feedback via a QR code available at the MRT stations.

"The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with some wishing that this sensory experience could be a permanent feature," shared Wu.

As such, Wu said SBS Transit is currently working with Lynk to develop a scent that will "continue to enhance [its] passengers' journey", which may be released later in 2025.
