A stray dog in Thailand captured the hearts of many after it was spotted "mourning" and camping outside a convenience store waiting for its owner's return.

According to Thailand English-language newspaper The Nation, Moo Daeng had been waiting for its owner outside a 7-Eleven outlet in the Mueang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province following the man's death in November 2024.

The sight was captured and shared on Jan. 13 by Facebook user Mari-Mo Photography, garnering many reactions.

Nicknamed "Hachi of Korat"

In the post, Moo Daeng was seen lying on top of a blue towel outside the store with a red blanket covering it.

Next to it, a yellow sign, which was reportedly put up by the store owner, informed the public that Moo Daeng cannot consume liver and milk.

"Please help it live long," the sign read.

A plush animal was also seen accompanying the dog.

The photos were reposted again in another Facebook page on Jan. 14, garnering 34,000 likes and 1,800 comments to date.

The post noted that Moo Daeng had been waiting outside the 7-Eleven store at the Grandma Mo Market since November 2024 after its owner died, which The Nation reported.

The dog, whose name means "red pork" in Thai, was later aptly given the nickname "Hachi of Korat", inspired by the Japanese dog Hachiko, which had waited every day at the Shibuya Station in Tokyo for its owner to come back.

Homeless owner died from serious illness

Moo Daeng's owner was a homeless man who reportedly died from a serious illness, according to The Nation.

The man had walked around the area to beg for food or the money for the two of them, while dressed shabbily and appearing to have a mental issues.

Both dog and owner often rested outside the store at night.

Following the man's death, the store owner and staff have been caring for Moo Daeng by feeding and keeping it warm every night.
