Man, 61, dies after bicycle & bus collide along slip road in Pioneer
The coach driver, a 44-year-old man, was arrested for driving without reasonable considerations to other road users causing death.
A 61-year-old male cyclist died after his bicycle collided with a coach along a Pioneer Road North slip road leading into Jurong West Avenue 4 on Jan. 7 morning.
Shin Min Daily News reported that it understands that the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after being run over by the bus.
Aftermath of incident
When Shin Min reporters arrived at the scene, the coach was parked in front of the zebra crossing along the slip road.
A blue tent had been set up behind the coach, and the surrounding area had been cordoned off by the police.
The coach driver was also seen talking to police officers inside a police vehicle.
According to photos showing the aftermath of the collision, at least four personnel and two police vehicles were at the scene.
The coach driver was taken away by the police.
Coach driver alerted company after collision
A person-in-charge of the coach company, who was also present at the scene, told Shin Min that the driver called his superiors after the incident.
According to the driver, he had just driven past the zebra crossing and was about to make a left turn along the slip road when he noticed something amiss.
When he stopped the vehicle, he allegedly found the cyclist and his bicycle lying on the ground behind the coach.
The person-in-charge added that the driver did not know how the collision had taken place.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Shin Min reported that it understands that the driver is a foreigner who has been working at the company for around six years.
Arrested by police
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed they were alerted to the incident at around 7:20am on Jan. 7.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic.
