A total of 12 flights bound for Changi Airport since the evening of Friday, Jan. 10, were diverted to other airports as a result of the heavy monsoon rain over the last four days.

In response to Mothership's queries, Changi Airport said these flights were diverted to airports in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Batam.

The flights, operated by various airlines, were from destinations including Bangkok, Jakarta, Phuket and Shanghai.

In addition, six non-commercial flights bound for Seletar were diverted to Changi Airport.

SIA flights affected

The inclement weather also affected the national carrier.

A spokesperson for Singapore Airlines (SIA) said over 50 SQ flights were delayed or re-timed as a result of the weather, The Straits Times reported.

The spokesperson also told Mothership that several of its flights continue to be delayed or retimed due to the wet weather in Singapore and the region over the weekend.

SIA added:

"SIA apologises to all customers for the inconvenience caused. We seek their understanding that the safety of our customers and staff members is always our top priority.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation, and make appropriate adjustments to our flights where necessary."

Jan. 10-11 recorded 255.2mm of rain, higher than monthly average

On Jan. 9, PUB issued an alert that a monsoon surge was expected to bring rainy and windy conditions to Singapore from Jan. 10 to 13.

From Jan. 10 to 11, a total of 255.2mm of rainfall was recorded.

This was more than Singapore's average monthly rainfall of 222.4mm in January.

PUB issued flood risk warnings for a few locations including Jalan Seaview, the junction of Mountbatten Road and Tanjong Katong South Road, as well as Jalan Pokok Serunai, where the heavy rain resulted in high water levels in drains and canals.

Flooding occurred along a stretch of Jalan Seaview on the evening of Jan. 10 due to heavy rain coinciding with a high tide of 2.8m, PUB said.

This temporarily overwhelmed the adjacent canal and surrounding roadside drains.

PUB's quick response teams were deployed to flood-risk locations, including Jalan Seaview, to assist residents.

The teams pumped water from flooded roads and distributed flood protection devices to residents.
