M'sian man, 24, walks on Causeway & gets hit by car that skidded, flung over barrier

The two occupants in the car are Singaporean men aged 21 and 23.

A 24-year-old man was sent flying across a barrier while walking along the Causeway on Malaysia's side during heavy rain, after he was hit by a car that had skidded.

Footage of the freak accident has been shared online.

The Malaysia police said in a statement on Monday, Jan. 13 that the incident occurred on Sunday, Jan. 12 at about 5:40pm, The Star reported.

The driver of the white vehicle involved had lost control in the rain, skidded, hit a road divider, before crashing into the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a Malaysian, was walking from Singapore to Malaysia, the police added.

According to footage of the incident, the car was travelling in the opposite direction from Malaysia to Singapore and there was no physical barrier separating the vehicles from pedestrians on the road.

As a result of the impact, the man was thrown over a barrier separating the car lane and the motorcycle lane.

The man landed on the motorcycle lane.

He suffered serious injuries as a result, Malaysia authorities added.

What footage showed

In the aftermath of the accident, the man, who was injured, could be seen lying on the road while being attended to by motorcyclists, and subsequently, by ambulance personnel.

The white car involved in the incident had its bonnet dented.

The two men in the car are Singaporeans, aged 21 and 23, Malaysia police said.

One passenger in the car sustained an injury to his left arm, it was also reported.

The authorities there advised those driving during bad weather to exercise caution.

Investigations are ongoing.
