Uncle Dollah, TKGS ex-ops manager, seriously injured in road accident, alumni raising funds
He is currently in critical condition.
A former operations manager at Tanjong Katong Girls' School (TKGS) was left seriously injured following a road accident near Toa Payoh Lorong 2 and Lorong 6.
Police confirmed with Mothership that they were alerted to the accident at around 6:40am on Jan. 13.
A 46-year-old male car driver is assisting with investigations.
Abdullah Basiron, 71, is in critical condition and receiving treatment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) following the accident.
Affectionately known to TKGS students as Uncle Dollah, he is regarded as the school's unofficial icon, having dedicated 45 years of service to the school.
His family is appealing for witnesses to come forward to help with the investigations.
Retired in 2017
Uncle Dollah joined the school at 19.
He retired on Jun. 30, 2017, at the age of 64.
Sweetest uncle to all
Former students of the secondary school remember him as the "sweetest uncle".
His daily tasks as a school keeper included unlocking and locking doors on the premises, as well as overseeing the various amenities.
Some of his acts of kindness that students remember him for, include those of him holding out umbrellas to shelter them in the rain.
He was also responsible for staying back until the last person left the school to lock up the premises.
In response to news of Uncle Dollah's accident, former students have come together to raise funds for him.
TKGS alumni raise funds
Zuzanita, from the class of 1988, and Khalid, from the class of 1986, have launched a fundraiser to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses and post-hospitalisation costs on Uncle Dollah's family.
At the time of writing, the fundraiser has raised more than S$14,000.
The campaign will close on Jan. 19 and will be disbursed to his family then.
