The temperature in Thailand's capital, Bangkok is expected to drop to as low as 15°C from Jan. 6 to Jan. 7.

Meanwhile, temperatures in the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand could reach 12°C, the Bangkok Post reported.

Mass of cold air covering upper Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) was quoted as saying that a mass of cold air is currently covering the upper region of Thailand, as well as its upper south and the South China Sea.

Temperatures in upper Thailand are therefore expected to decrease by 1°C to 2°C over the next 24 hours, with strong winds.

Cool to cold weather has been predicted for Thailand's northern, northeastern and central regions.

Cold weather in the morning is expected for Thailand's eastern and upper southern regions, along with Bangkok and its adjacent areas.

In addition, frost is expected to form in some areas in the highlands of Thailand.

Photos shared to Facebook by Doi Inthanon National Park, located in Thailand's northern province of Chiang Mai, showed temperatures reaching 3°C on Jan. 4 and 0°C on Jan. 6, with frost covering plants.

The Bangkok Post further reported that the cool weather is expected to persist until Jan. 20, before temperatures begin to warm up.
