During four days of monsoon rain, two lifts at Block 547 Serangoon North Avenue 3 had to be intermittently shut down and repaired due to water ingress.

One of the lifts appeared to have been restored as of Jan. 13.

Ang Mo Kio Town Council put up a post on Facebook on Jan. 11 addressing the two faulty lifts issue.

Repairs for the lifts commenced on Jan. 10, Shin Min Daily News reported.

Lift was repaired then went down again on Jan. 13

One of the lifts was repaired on Jan. 12.

A Shin Min reporter who went down to the block on Jan. 13 found that the repaired lift's doors would keep opening and closing multiple times, before working normally.

The other lift, as of Jan. 13 morning, was still under maintenance.

At about 11am on Jan. 13, however, the lift that was repaired appeared to have malfunctioned again.

A screen next to the elevator displayed that it was “Out of Order” and that there was a “Power Failure”.

Residents were inconvenienced and had to take the stairs instead.

Disgruntled residents

Several residents shared their frustrations with Shin Min about having to climb up the whole flight of stairs after a long day.

One resident claimed that the elevators had been recently renovated, about more than a year ago, but that they have broken down more than once.

Another said he decided to go out less often over the weekend due to the lifts being in disrepair.

Repairs ongoing

The town council updated its Facebook post on Jan. 13, at 8:11pm, to note that one of the lifts, "lift B" had been restored.

"We are still conducting safety checks on Lift A before turning it back on," the post added.
