Woman, 33 & man, 50, fight for 12 mins in AMK, throw plates, beer bottles & buckets at each other
They were each handed a S$2,000 fine.
After a 50-year-old man refused to drink beer with her at an Ang Mo Kio coffee shop in October 2024, a 33-year-old woman decided to follow him around, play with his hair, and put her hand on his shoulders.
However, when the man, Pek Kok Chong, repeatedly declined her invitations to drink together, the woman, Chen Liying, poured two cups of beer on his body and his head, reported Shin Min Daily News.
Just as Chen was getting ready to pour the third cup on him, Pek pushed away the cup and threw her onto the ground.
A fight subsequently ensued, and the duo exchanged punches and threw various objects, including plates, beer bottles, and beer buckets, at each other.
Subsequently, both of them fell to the ground, but they continued wrestling, with Chen slapping Pek multiple times and throwing a plastic chair at his head.
Although members of the public lodged three separate police reports about the fight, which lasted 12 minutes, Chen and Pek left the scene before police officers arrived.
Chen intoxicated beforehand
According to court documents seen by Shin Min, the fight took place at around 11:05pm on Oct. 5 at a coffee shop located at Block 630 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4.
Earlier that night, Pek arrived at the coffee shop to drink with his friends at 9pm.
Chen, who had already been intoxicated elsewhere, walked into the coffee shop at around 10:50pm.
She then asked Pek to drink with her before pouring beer for both of them.
However, Pek declined the invitation, citing that he had already drunk earlier.
Dispute escalated
Pek's rejection did not put off Chen, as she insisted on having Pek drink with her and even began following him around the coffee shop, reported Shin Min.
However, her patience quickly ran out after Pek repeatedly turned down her invitation, and she poured two cups of beer on him consecutively at around 11:04pm.
Pek pushed the cup away just as Chen was about to pour the third cup on him.
A fight ensued and was caught on camera by an onlooker.

Member of public tried to intervene
At around 11:13pm, Chen picked up a beer bucket containing beer bottles and aimed it towards Pek, reported Shin Min.
At the time, a member of the public, dressed in a white top, was seen in the Stomp video trying to stop Chen by holding onto the bucket.
However, Chen yelled, "Release your hand!"
She then launched the bucket at Pek, while hurling vulgarities.
As a result, the bucket hit Pek's forehead, causing him to sustain a cut.
In response, Pek threw two beer bottles at Chen, scaring away other diners at the coffee shop.
Both sustained minor injuries
Later on, Chen began punching Pek and pulling his hair, whereas Pek held onto Chen and continued wrestling with her on the ground, reported Shin Min.
While holding onto Pek's hair with her left hand, Chen also slapped him multiple times using her right hand and hurled vulgarities at him.
During the fight, Chen also pulled over a chair next to her and slammed it at Pek's head several times.
Their dispute only came to a close at around 11:17pm, and they both left before the police arrived.
Chen, who sustained a bruise on her forehead and scratches on her hands, called her husband to pick her up.
Similarly, Pek also sustained a cut on his forehand and scratches on his hands due to the fight.
Each fined S$2,000
On Dec. 19, Pek and Chen were each handed a S$2,000 fine after they pleaded guilty to their respective offences, reported Shin Min.
Pek was charged with affray and committing a rash act endangering life, while Chen was charged with affray and committing a rash act causing hurt.
During court proceedings, the prosecution highlighted that while Chen “pestered" Pek first, it was he who escalated the dispute into a physical one.
In his mitigation plea, Pek said he "felt guilty" about his offences and asked for a lighter sentence so that he could take care of his elderly mother.
Likewise, Chen told the court she was a first-time offender and asked the judge for "a chance of self-renewal" before promising to abide by the law in the future.
