Charcoal-grilled tonkatsu restaurant from Korea opening at Tanjong Pagar in Dec. 2024
Meat galore.
Tonshou, a charcoal-grilled tonkatsu restaurant, will open its first Singapore outlet this month.
The outlet will be located in Tanjong Pagar.
This marks Tonshou's first international expansion, following its four existing locations in South Korea.
While the store will have its grand opening on Dec. 20, they will also be welcoming customers who have successfully made online reservations from from Dec. 9 to 19.
The website for reservations has not been confirmed at press time.
Tonshou says they have a unique four-stage cooking process that ensures a tender and flavourful tonkatsu experience.
The steps are as follows:
- Low-temperature cooking: This ensures even cooking while retaining the pork’s natural juices.
- High-temperature cooking: This step locks in flavour and creates a crispy, golden crust.
- Resting: The cutlets rest to reach the optimum temperature for tenderness and juiciness.
- Charcoal grilling: This final stage imparts a smoky, authentic aroma to the tonkatsu.
One of the standout features of Tonshou’s tonkatsu is its signature pink hue, a result of the natural reaction between myoglobin (a protein in muscle tissue) and heat.
The menu features a range of tonkatsu sets, as well as shrimp tempura and curry dishes.
Some highlights from the menu include:
Special Rosu Katsu Set (S$31++)
Specially selected pork loin cutlet.
Hire Katsu Set (S$26++)
Pork tenderloin cutlet.
Kanjiyuku Katsu Set (S$24++)
Thin cut and well-done pork loin cutlet.
Ebi Sando Set (S$24++)
Shrimp tempura sandwich.
