A man in Sydney was caught in an embarrassing position on Dec. 12 with his tongue stuck to an ice installation outside a mall, in what may or may not be a marketing stunt.

The ice sculpture had been set up outside Sydney's Pitt Mall by energy drink company V Energy to promote its line of Refresh drinks, Australian media reported.

Stuck

Footage shared on Reddit showed a crowded street where a man in a white shirt and shorts had his tongue planted on the side of the ice sculpture.

He was being attended to by security personnel, who poured water on his tongue to free him.

A crowd of onlookers had gathered to watch.

Behind the man was a booth where promoters seemed to be handing out cans of V Energy drinks.

A man recording the incident was holding one such can in his hand.

Marketing stunt?

Some users commented that the man could have been smarter in his decisions, with a few making references to this movie scene in the 1983 comedy flick, "A Christmas Story".

Others raised their suspicions that it could be a marketing stunt for V Energy, given what looked to be fairly prominent product placement.

“We never thought we’d have to say this, but don’t lick ice sculptures in public. Drink V Refresh instead,” a V Energy spokesperson said in response to the video, News.com.au reported.

The spokesperson also requested that the "Pitt Street licker" contact them, as they had a present for him.
