S'porean woman, 33, dies in car crash along Taiwan highway after picking strawberries with family
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
A Singaporean woman, aged 33, has died in a collision while travelling in Taiwan with her husband and daughter.
Woman was stuck in the back seat after accident
According to Taiwan's Central News Agency, the accident happened in Miaoli County, at the 114km mark on Provincial Highway No. 3.
First responders found a car stuck between a power pole and the roadside retaining wall.
The car also brought down two power poles.
The driver, a 36-year-old Singaporean man surnamed Lu (transliteration from Mandarin), and the couple's daughter, aged five, were able to emerge from the vehicle.
However, the woman was stuck in the back seat, local police were quoted as saying.
She showed "no signs of life" when first responders got her out of the vehicle and she was subsequently pronounced dead at hospital.
Family had been picking strawberries
Lianhe Zaobao reported that the driver appeared to be too distressed to answer the police's questions following the accident.
The family had been picking strawberries at Miaoli and were heading to the town of Nanzhuang.
Police confirmed that the driver was not driving under the influence of alcohol.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
