Student in M'sia fills exam paper with lyrics of 'APT' instead of essay, disappoints teacher
His attention to details was impeccable.
A cheeky student in Malaysia opted to write the lyrics of "APT" by Rosé and Bruno Mars on their exam paper instead of completing the required essay, leaving their teacher exasperated.
The disappointed teacher shared the incident on TikTok, expressing her frustration over the student’s antics and their lack of responsibility.
@cikgu_baby Kami berusaha semaksima mungkin untuk menyediakan laman ilmu terbaik buat anak2, tapi ini balasan anak2 buat kami. Kecewa! Langsung xde tanggungjawab. Seandainya kamu biasa menulis karangan sepenuh lirik lagu ini, alangkah bangganya cikgumu ini. #teacherlife #pendidikan #mentalabuse #pdp #malaysia #studentlife #badattitude #frustration #exhausted #fypシ゚ #fypage #lost ♬ original sound - aslam - aslammbul
Diligently wrote lyrics
The teacher's TikTok video highlighted the exam paper, where the question was based on the Malay literature novel Tawanan Komander Caucasus.
However, instead of addressing the question, the student meticulously wrote out nearly the entire pop song's lyrics.
The student even included onomatopoeia and marked repeated lines with "x2," showing their dedication to accuracy.
The teacher's caption read: "In the midst of marking papers, straightaway feeling down".
Disappointed teacher
In the video caption, the teacher wrote that she was disappointed by the lack of responsibility shown by the student.
"We (teachers) strive to the best of our abilities to give the best education to our students, but this is how our students repay us. Disappointing! No sense of responsibility."
She noted how proud the teachers would be if the students could write an essay as complete as the song lyrics.
Online support for teacher
Comments on the video expressed shock at the student's audacity, with one asking: "How can a student dare to do that?"
Another noted that while the teacher had done her part, the responsibility also lies with parents to monitor their child’s learning progress.
Some suggested taking measures such as sending a photo of the answer to the student's parents for them to help address the issue.
Viral earworm
"APT", a collaboration by South Korean girl group Blackpink's member Rosé and Bruno Mars went viral soon after its release on Oct. 18, 2024.
The song, with its catchy chorus and addictive lyrics, proved to be a distraction for students in South Korea as well.
It has become a "banned song" among students preparing for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), Korea JoongAng Daily reported.
Predecessor of banned songs include SS501’s "U R Man" (2008), SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" (2009) and Red Velvet’s "Dumb Dumb" (2016).
“I’m worried that the song will play in my head even during the exam,” one student told Yonhap News, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.
“Adults might laugh and say, ‘Why stress over something like that?’ But for us, with such an important test ahead, it can feel unsettling.”
