No more oil leak has been observed after Shell shut down its oil processing unit on Dec. 27.

This comes on the back of an oil leak discovered off Pulau Bukom on Boxing Day, said the Marina and Port Authority (MPA), National Environment Agency (NEA), National Parks Board (NParks), and Sentosa in a joint statement on Dec. 28.

Shell is still trying to find the source of the leak in the oil processing unit.

In the meantime, extra booms — temporary barriers to control the spread of oil — have been set up as a precautionary measure at Sisters' Island and Sentosa.

Clean-up completed

The leak was discovered by Shell in the morning of Dec. 26, and support was provided by MPA.

Three additional patrol craft were deployed the next day after Shell requested support to hasten the clean-up.

Clean-up efforts of the light oil sheens off Pulau Bukom have since been completed, the statement said.

No sightings of oil sheens or oil patches have been detected in the waters off Sentosa, and its beaches remain open for water activities.

NEA is investigating the incident with MPA, the agencies added.

Action will be taken if any wrongdoing or lapse is discovered.
