11 men, aged 19-61, arrested in S'pore in 2-day op by CID’s Secret Societies Branch
Close to 100 persons were checked.
The Singapore police arrested 11 men, aged between 19 and 61, for being suspected members of unlawful societies during an island-wide operation conducted over two days on Nov. 29 and 30.
Those arrested were suspected gang members.
More than 40 public entertainment outlets, nightlife establishments and food and beverage outlets, as well as close to 100 persons were checked.
Police investigations against all 11 individuals are ongoing.
The secret societies suppression operation was led by the Secret Societies Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Those guilty of being a member of an unlawful society can be fined up to S$5,000, jailed up to three years, or both.
The police said they would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to conduct regular enforcement operations at the various public entertainment and nightlife outlets and popular gathering places.
