Actor Ryan Lian, 39, reveals facial scars from being stabbed outside NEX
Lian said the scars at his lips makes him look like the "Joker".
Local actor Ryan Lian, 39, has opened up about his injuries following an attack on Nov. 22 that has scarred his face.
The Ah Boys to Men 4 actor was stabbed at least three times in the face by a 21-year-old assailant outside NEX, a shopping mall in Serangoon.
The attack saw Lian undergo a three-hour operation and receive numerous stitches to close up the wounds, reported Shin Min Daily News.
Sharing the photos via an Instagram post on Dec. 6, Lian wrote that he suddenly felt like the "Joker," referencing a character from DC comics who also had scars on his face stretching from his lips.
Multiple scars can be seen around Lian's lips, eyebrows and chin.
Words of encouragement pour in
Many followers empathised with the actor's feelings, and left encouraging messages on his post.
Fellow actor Maxi Lim joked that Lian now bore the scars of a "Muay Thai fighter with a story to tell."
Others encourage Lian not to give up on his acting dreams — a key concern he had been vocal about after the attack.
Attacker offered bail
The 21-year-old attacker, Aaron Samuel Yukon, was charged on Nov. 23 with one count of voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon.
According to court documents, Yukon allegedly used a knife to slash Lian multiple times, causing him to suffer multiple lacerations and abrasions.
Yukon was offered a bail of S$15,000 on Nov. 29, with Yukon's mother acting as his bailor.
Court records show Yukon is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 3, 2025.
Yukon could be jailed for up to seven years, with caning, a fine, or any combination of such punishments if found guilty.
