Japanese-Western fusion restaurant chain Royal Host has launched their second outlet in Singapore.

This time, it's nestled in the heart of town.

The chain made its Singapore debut at Jewel Changi earlier this year.

The second outlet is tucked away in the basement of Ngee Ann City, taking over the unit previously occupied by Genki Sushi.

The restaurant's interior is similar to that of its inaugural outlet, with earthy-toned furniture and wood-panelled walls that make for a cosy ambience.

The space accommodates around 80 diners.

Here's what we had:

Royal Hamburg Steak with Wa-Fu Japanese Sauce (S$29.80)

If there's one thing Royal Host is known for, it's their consistency in flavour.

The hamburg tasted just as we remembered from when we first tried its brown butter variation at the Jewel outlet.

The Wa-Fu Japanese sauce was light and savoury, pairing well with the steak.

Royal Sirloin Steak 250g (S$64.80)

Served with sides of potatoes, vegetables and radish, the steak was tender and delightfully buttery.

Wasabi and soy sauce are recommended pairings for this dish, but we didn't try the combination ourselves.

Royal Omurice with Demiglace Sauce (S$26.80)

What stood out about this dish was the rice, which had been fried in ketchup prior to being encased in egg.

The scrambled egg was creamy, and the rich demiglace sauce tied the flavours together nicely.

Pasta with Seafood & Mentaiko Sauce (S$29.40)

As someone who typically dislikes mentaiko, this dish was surprisingly my favourite among all the dishes tried.

The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the mentaiko flavour wasn't too overpowering.

Lobster Bisque (S$10.80)

Though appearing thick and creamy, the flavour of this dish turned out to be milder than I had expected, with a lighter consistency.

French Toast with Caramelised Banana (S$22)

The caramelised banana slices here were crispy, and when paired with the fluffy toast slices, offered a balanced mix of flavours and textures.

The dish was also accompanied by blueberries, nuts and whipped cream.
