A plane crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea on Dec. 29, 2024, killing at least 28 people, Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

The Jeju Air flight, which was returning from Bangkok, Thailand, veered off the runaway and collided with a fence.

The Boeing 737 had 175 passengers and six crew members on board. At least two of the passengers were Thai nationals.

Yonhap further reported that at least 28 have died.

Acting president Choi Sang Mok, who had taken over from the former acting president Han Duck Soo just a few days ago on Dec. 27, called for "all-out efforts" in the rescue operation.

A bird strike is believed to have caused the plane's landing gear to malfunction, The Guardian reported. However, this remains under investigation.
