Man, 53, killed by train in Thailand while apparently making TikTok
He did not heed the warning whistle in time, as he was looking at his phone right before the train hit him.
A 53-year-old man in Thailand was struck and killed by a train on Dec. 18, while apparently filming a TikTok video.
The incident occurred at around 8:20am.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found the body of Wirote Aranyaket crushed by the train.
Police from the Ratchaburi station were alerted to the incident when a man was reported to have been hit by a train on Chulalongkorn Bridge in Muang district, according to the Bangkok Post.
The police later discovered a video on Aranyaket's phone showing him speaking to the camera near the tracks just before the accident occurred.
Scene of the accident
According to Naew Na, the authorities found Aranyaket's mangled body in the middle of the train tracks, with his head crushed and his limbs severed.
Rescue workers retrieved his severed remains, which were scattered around the area, and placed them in black bags before transporting the body for an autopsy, Khaosod reported.
His broken bicycle was located about 200m from his body, beside the train tracks, Naew Na reported.
Other items such as his broken tripod, live streaming gear, and pieces of his helmet were also discovered at the scene.
Did not hear train's whistle
According to the Bangkok Post, the train driver told the police he saw a man sitting very close to the tracks, looking at his phone mounted on a tripod.
Unable to stop in time, the driver sounded the train's whistle to warn the man to get out of the way.
Aranyaket apparently did not react quickly enough.
The train dragged his body 200m to 300m along the tracks, across the bridge over the Mae Klong river, the police said.
Wife stunned by tragic accident
Aranyaket's wife told local media that the morning of his death started like any other.
She said he dropped her and their child off at school, where she works, at around 7am, Naew Na reported.
Later, Aranyaket told her he was going to take the bicycle from the back of their car and ride to Chulalongkorn Bridge to film a video for TikTok, a routine he did every day.
At the time, Aranyaket's wife did not foresee anything would go wrong.
However, she was later told by the police over a call that a cyclist had been hit by a train.
At first, she did not believe it was her husband, but the call came shortly after he left her.
She rushed to the scene to check with the police and confirmed with them that the deceased was, in fact, her husband.
Loved to take videos for social media
According to Naew Na, Aranyaket was an English tutor who was especially fond of taking videos and posting them on social media.
He ran online pages about cycling and travel on Facebook and TikTok.
Viewers have since posted messages of condolence following the incident.
Aranyaket's wife said he was known for his cheerful personality and had many friends in his cycling club.
His wife told local media she does not know how she would cope without her husband, as he was the head of the family.
Similar incident occurred few days before
On Dec. 14, a tourist at Taiwan's Alishan Forest Railway was struck by a train while taking photos near the tracks with her back turned to an oncoming train.
She survived with a broken foot.
