Man, 61, arrested for allegedy selling counterfeit watches in Choa Chu Kang
The man was arrested within five hours of a victim’s report.
A 61-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a cheating case involving the sale of counterfeit watches, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a news release on Dec. 28.
What happened
The 61-year-old man had allegedly cheated a victim by selling a counterfeit watch for S$100.
The victim made a report on Dec. 27 at 11:30am, after discovering it was a counterfeit.
According to preliminary investigations, the man had allegedly approached individuals in public places, claiming to have lost money at a casino and wanting to sell branded watches at S$100 to S$300.
The man was arrested by officers from the Jurong and Tanglin Police Division within five hours of the victim’s report.
Several watches, purportedly counterfeit, and S$1,340 worth of cash were seized.
Offence
The man will be charged in court on Dec. 28 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871.
If convicted, the man could be imprisoned for up to 10 years and fined.
SPF advised members of the public to be cautious when approached by strangers offering to sell luxury items, especially at discounted prices.
The police also encouraged those with information related to similar scams to submit information via its website or call its hotline at 1800-255-0000.
