A young man supposedly going through a difficult time in his life ended up lashing out at seven people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The incident occurred at The Ramen House along 6 Short Street, reported Shin Min Daily News.

27-year-old Silas Low Xie Kang had been drinking in the wee hours of the morning before he and three friends entered the ramen shop at 3am on Dec. 18, 2023.

Out of nowhere, he began kicking up a fuss.

Threw ramen bowl and kettle at strangers

Low got up and strode towards two men seated at another table.

He hollered at them, then hit one on the head and another in the face.

Though shocked, the strangers did not retaliate.

This did not stop Low from continuing to attack them, throwing a ramen bowl at one person and hitting him in the head again.

He paid no attention to his friends who tried to restrain him, said Shin Min.

Instead, Low picked up a kettle filled with hot water and flung it at the two strangers.

The kettle ended up hitting one of the victim's heads.

Later on in the hospital, one of the men would discover that he had a fractured eye socket, along with minor injuries to his scalp and lip that required sutures.

Jumped two more people

After attacking the two men in the restaurant, Low stormed out of the establishment, flipping a table as he went.

His penchant for violence didn't wane even after leaving, as he ended up jumping two more men smoking outside the restaurant.

He punched one of the man in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

Then, he turned to the victim's companion and punched him in the teeth, making to chase after him when he tried to escape.

He later returned to the fallen victim and kicked him.

Like Low's previous victims, these men did not retaliate.

Instead, they ran across the street to avoid Low.

Attacked restaurant chef, manager and cleaner

Low did not stop at attacking four people.

When he tried to reenter the restaurant, he was stopped by staff, who also suffered the brunt of his rage.

The staff eventually managed to get Low to leave, but not before he hit the chef and manager and threw a disinfectant at the female cleaner.

Low then took a taxi home, grabbed his passport, and drove off to Malaysia.

It was not until three days later, on Dec. 21, that Low returned to Singapore.

According to Shin Min, Low was detained at the checkpoint and arrested by police.

He was released on bail the next day but found himself remanded in custody when he committed another crime.

A tough time in his life

Low's outburst at the ramen shop caused his victims to suffer varying degrees of injuries.

He was charged in court with 14 offences, including voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

According to Shin Min, after he pleaded guilty, his lawyer told the judge that Low had been going through a rough patch in his life.

The lawyer attributed Low's poor behaviour to his problems with an ex-girlfriend and business failure that led Low to drink his sorrows away.

He added that Low had been guilt-ridden over not spending enough time with his late grandfather.

Shin Min reported that the prosecution said Low should receive a harsh punishment as he was drunk and had attacked people in their vulnerable spots, and his assault had lasted over a prolonged period.

Low ended up being sentenced to 12 months and 2 weeks in prison and ordered to pay S$2,062.50 to his victims.
