Less wet weather expected in S'pore for last week of 2024
Maybe it won't rain on Christmas.
Looking for some reprieve from the rainy weather this Christmas?
Well, you're in luck.
According to a Meteorological Services Singapore Dec. 16 media advisory, one can expect thundery showers in the afternoon over parts of the island in this coming week, the third week of December.
These showers may be widespread and extend into the evening on a few days.
However, the last week of December (and 2024) is forecast to be generally drier.
Due to a brief strengthening of northerly winds, one can expect windy conditions with brief periods of passing showers on some days in the last week of 2024.
The total rainfall for the second fortnight of December 2024 is forecast to be below average over most parts of the island.
The daily maximum temperatures are likely to range between 32 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius on most days.
On a few days, it may slightly exceed 34 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.
Mix of rainy, hot weather in first half of December
The first fortnight of December saw a mix of rainy and hot weather.
The highest total rainfall during that period was experienced when heavy thundery showers hit Singapore on Dec. 3.
This resulted in a daily total rainfall of 109.6mm recorded at Bedok that day.
On several days, the daily maximum temperature reached 34 degrees Celsius or more.
The highest daily maximum temperature of 36.2 degree Celsius was recorded at Paya Lebar on Dec. 7, 2024.
This surpassed the record highest daily temperature in December of 35.9 degree Celsius, recorded at Seletar on Dec. 6, 2016.
Most parts of Singapore recorded below average rainfall.
The Ulu Pandan area registered rainfall of about 82 per cent below average while the Tai Seng registered rainfall of about 8 per cent above average.
