Worker falls 9m from Jurong West site platform at 3:45am
He was doing construction works for the Jurong Region Line at the time.
A worker fell from a platform 9m off the ground while performing construction works on the Jurong Region Line at a Jurong West worksite in the wee hours of the morning on Dec. 4.
He was subsequently sent to hospital.
Fell at 3:45am
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed with Mothership that it received a call for assistance near Block 737 Jurong West Street 75 at about 3:45am on Dec. 4.
A spokesperson from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said the worker fell from a height of about 9m while working on a metal platform.
"The worker was conveyed to the hospital, where he remained conscious and is receiving medical care," the spokesperson added.
SCDF said the man was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH).
Safety time-out called
The LTA spokesperson said it is working with the main contractor, China Railway 11 Bureau Group Corporation (CRCC11), to provide assistance to the worker.
A safety time-out has been called to review and strengthen safety processes.
"LTA takes a serious view of safety incidents. Investigations into the incident are ongoing," the spokesperson said.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) confirmed with Mothership that it is investigating the matter.
LTA is also supporting MOM in investigations.
According to MOM statistics, the construction sector contributed to 26 per cent of all fatal and major injury incidents in the first half of 2024 — the highest out of any sector.
There were 31 fatal and major injuries at larger scale construction sites during this period, up from 28 in the first half of 2023.
