Local manufacturer Hup Huat Noodles has been suspended indefinitely from Dec. 4 by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

This was due to the presence of severe pest infestation and poor maintenance at a food processing establishment, according to a Dec. 5 SFA statement following an inspection on Dec. 4.

The food processing establishment is located at 10 Chin Bee Drive in Jurong.

SFA uncovered an infestation of live cockroaches, and found "poor housekeeping and maintenance".

Dirty floors and food processing equipment were also noted.

Hup Huat Noodles has since been directed to "rectify the lapses" and improve its food safety practices.

A brand name in Singapore, Hup Huat Noodles is most well-known for its traditional noodles, including bee hoon and flour vermicelli (mee sua), amongst other products.

Onus on food operators to maintain cleanliness

In light of the lapse, SFA reminded food operators to ensure that their premises are "clean and well-maintained", and staff are "adequately trained" to manage food.

Those who do not adhere to regulations, or comply with food safety requirements, may have enforcement action taken against them.

Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding S$5,000 for each offence.

Members of the public are also encouraged to report poor food safety practices and can provide feedback to SFA via its online feedback form.
