Grab driver seen using phone with both hands while driving gets suspended after passenger complained
A Grab spokesperson said that the driver had violated Grab's code of conduct.
A Grab driver has been suspended after he was found using his mobile phone while driving.
In a Facebook post shared on Dec. 5, the driver was said to have been texting with both hands.
The post called him an "irresponsible Grab driver".
In response to Mothership's queries, a Grab spokesperson said that the ride-hailing platform has apologised to the passenger and offered a refund.
Held phone using both hands
At the start of the 16-second clip, the driver could be seen holding his phone in his right hand, before switching to his left hand.
He then briefly held the phone with both hands and tapped on the screen with his right thumb, before returning his right hand onto the steering wheel.
The driver continued typing on his phone with his left hand.
The clip cut off when he placed his phone on his lap.
The caption read: "Irresponsible Grab driver, continuously texting with both hands! And this is just a short part when I was able to record."
Grab responds
A Grab spokesperson said that ensuring the safety of its passengers is of the utmost priority.
It added that the driver captured on video had violated Grab's code of conduct and has since been suspended.
The ride-hailing firm has also reached out to the passenger to apologise for the experience and refunded the booking.
Grab reminded its drivers that using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited in Singapore, adding that it is a "serious offence", which "not only violates traffic laws but also endangers lives".
The spokesperson added: "All interactions with mobile devices should only be done using hands-free modes and when the vehicle is safely stationary. Driver-partners found to have violated our code of conduct or traffic laws may be permanently banned on our platform."
