Users of ride-hailing apps Gojek, Tada and ComfortDelGro’s CDG Zig will pay more per trip from Jan. 1, 2025.

The move to hike platform fees is to cover costs arising from the upcoming Platform Workers Act.

Gojek

Gojek, the second largest ride-hailing operator here, will raise its platform fee by S$0.30 to S$0.50 per trip.

The revised platform fee will range from S$0.90 to $1.50 for every trip, it was announced on Gojek's website on Dec. 23.

Gojek said the increase will help to "protect driver's earnings", while maintaining and improving its services in support of the new Platform Workers Act.

Tada

Ride-hailing competitor Tada has similarly announced a price hike of S$0.50 per ride, before the goods and services tax.

It currently has a platform fee of between S$0.55 to S$0.75, and will be revised to S$1.05 to S$1.25 from Jan. 1.

In an email sent to its commuters on Dec. 24, Tada also attributed the adjustment to the act that was passed in Parliament.

"Under this new legislation, we are committed to ensuring our driver-partners are protected with comprehensive insurance coverage during their trips as well as contributing to the Central Provident Fund (CPF) accounts of eligible driver-partners," Tada said, adding that these measures help to "provide greater financial security" for its drivers.

Existing driver's fees, which are credited to the drivers, will also be extended until Jun. 30, 2025 to help offset their operational costs, said the operator.

In addition, Tada shared that its riders will also be able to have personal accident insurance on all Tada trips.

CDG Zig

ComfortDelGro, the largest taxi operator in Singapore, will raise its platform fee by S$0.30 to S$0.50, to a range of S$1 to S$1.20 based on distance travelled and travel time.

Grab

Grab said its updated platform and partner fee component will go up by S$0.20.

It will be S$0.90 for transport, and S$0.60 for food, mart and express service from Jan. 1, 2025.

About the Platform Workers Act

The upcoming Platform Workers Act was passed by Parliament in September 2024.

It will come into force in January 2025.

The new law provides greater labour protections for private-hire car drivers, cabbies and delivery workers.

According to the Ministry of Manpower, the Platform Workers Act provides for the "rights, obligations, protections and representation of platform workers and platform operators".

The act will essentially help to implement and recommend policies to protect platform workers.

Other recommendations include ensuring that platform workers are entitled to work injury compensation as employees under the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA) and making CPF contributions mandatory for workers born on or after Jan. 1, 1995 to improve housing and retirement adequacy.
