Football fans in M'sia seen clashing & throwing objects at rail station after 0-0 draw with S'pore
Commenters on the video questioned why was there a need to attack a public transport facility.
Football fans in Malaysia were seen conducting themselves in a disorderly manner after Singapore drew 0-0 with Malaysia at the Asean Football Championship on Dec. 20, 2024.
The draw meant that the Lions would advance to the next round of the tournament, with Malaysia crashing out.
Disorderly conduct
In a video posted on Facebook, football fans were apparently caught on video at the Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station in Malaysia — a few stops away from Bukit Jalil, where the match was held — in a state of post-match hooliganism.
A few men were seen forcing open the already-closed doors of the train and pulling out a passenger, and then flinging items into the train.
One man managed to obtain a large metal-framed signage barrier and looked like he was about to throw it, but was stopped by a uniformed officer.
Another man picked up what appeared to be a metal trash can, and used it to pummel the car doors repeatedly.
He then slipped on a piece of trash.
In the background, a woman could be heard shouting: "This the public transport lah, sial!"
It is unclear who the passengers onboard the train car were.
Commenters on the video questioned why was there a need to attack a public transport facility.
Football rioting
Hooliganism, a term used to describe aggressive or violent behaviour involving spectators at sporting events, has been witnessed at football events.
In recent times, Malaysia has seen instances of such unruly conduct.
In August 2023, two prior instances of violence in the football scene prompted the Football Association of Malaysia to crank up efforts to curb such behaviour.
"We will have zero tolerance when it comes to hooliganism, or at least try to minimise such incidents. Let those incidents be a lesson on how we should put an end to this menace," said association president Hamidin Amin.
In November 2024, a brawl took place between supporters from Selangor and Perak ahead of a Malaysian Super League Match.
A total of 20 men were arrested, reported The Star.
