"There was smoke everywhere": Passer-by
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Mothership that it was alerted to a fire at 3 New Bugis Street at about 7pm.
Footage shared by a Mothership reader passing through the area showed smoke wafting through a corridor lined with beauty salons.
A salon staff was seen pinching her nose, supposedly due to the smoke.
Several onlookers had gathered to watch.
The reader said that she saw "smoke everywhere" on the third floor of the mall but was not sure what caused the fire.
Police and an SCDF fire truck soon arrived at the scene, she added.
Fire put out by member of public
SCDF said that the fire involved a lighting fixture in a shop on the third floor.
It was extinguished by a member of the public using a dry powder fire extinguisher before SCDF's arrival.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
