Commuters advised to plan ahead for Dec. 7-10 EWL disruption between Tanah Merah & Tampines MRT
Commuters are advised to factor in up to 20 minutes of additional traveling time.
Due to track works, train service will not run from Tanah Merah to Tampines from Dec. 7 to 10, 2024.
The operation, from Saturday to Tuesday will see the connection of tracks from the East-West Line (EWL) to the East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID), shared LTA and SMRT in a joint news release reminding commuters on Dec. 4, 2024.
The four-day disruption to train service was announced in November.
Trains will not be able to operate along the affected segment of the EWL during this period for safety reasons.
"LTA has planned and completed all possible preparatory work beforehand, including the completion of the viaducts and other works to enable the connection of the tracks, in order to keep the overall duration of closure to the minimum necessary to complete the required works safely," said an earlier release in November.
Shuttle trains to run
Shuttle trains will operate between Tampines and Pasir Ris stations at the following intervals:
- Tampines and Pasir Ris: Every five minutes
- Tanah Merah and Expo: Every eight minutes
- Expo and Changi Airport: Every 11 minutes
From Dec. 9 to 10, during peak hours, alternate trains heading towards Tanah Merah station will end their service at Paya Lebar station to maintain peak hour frequency.
Shuttle buses deployed
From Dec. 7 to 10, a shuttle bus service (Shuttle 7) will run between Tampines, Simei and Tanah Merah stations, from the first train to last train timings.
It will operate at a frequency of three to five minutes.
The shuttle towards Tampines will begin its route at Tanah Merah Station Exit B.
It will make a stop at Opposite Simei Station, and end at Tampines Interchange.
Likewise, the shuttle headed towards Tanah Merah will begin at After Tampines Station Exit E.
It will stop at Simei Station, and conclude its journey at Tanah Merah Station Exit A.
Advised to plan in advance
Commuters are advised to plan their travel in advance, and factor up to 20 minutes of additional travelling time, said LTA in a press release.
For the latest updates, commuters can check the LTA’s MyTransport.SG mobile app, as well as LTA’s and SMRT’s social media platforms.
