British music legend Sir Elton John opened up about losing his eyesight at the opening night of "The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical" in England on Dec. 2.
Taking to the stage after the performance, John shared that he could not attend the previews of his musical due to the loss of his eyesight.
"It's hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it. And boy does it sound good tonight," he quipped.
The musical, based on the film and book of the same name, features an original score by John.
Loss of eyesight due to infection
John revealed to the American news outlet ABC News in November 2024 that he has been struggling with his eyesight since July 2024.
He said he lost sight in his right eye due to an infection, and his left eye "is not the greatest".
"It kind of floored me. I can't see anything, I can't read anything, I can't watch anything," he added.
When asked about the progress of his new album, which he announced in November 2023, he noted that he was unsure.
"I can do something like this [interview], but going into the studio and recording, I don't know. Because I can't see a lyric for start."
His health issues are not new.
Earlier this year, at the New York premiere of his documentary film, "Elton John: Never Too Late", he half-joked that “there’s not much of me left”.
He said then: “I don’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip.”
But he also said he has been able to turn to music for support throughout the tough times.
