The electronic gates (e-gates) at the Malaysia Customs (CIQ) were down on Dec. 8.
In a post on Chinese social media, Xiao Hong Shu, one user shared that the e-gates at the customs were not working and were closed at around 12 pm.
This led to the queues not moving for at least two hours.
At 12:32pm, Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) shared on Facebook that there was heavy departure traffic at Woodlands Checkpoint due to tailback from Malaysia.
In a Facebook group, one user shared pictures of the long queue at 1:48pm and the non-functioning e-gates.
However, another user in the group stated that while the e-gates are down, the estimated waiting time for those clearing customs through the manual counters is about 60 to 80 minutes.
At 3:55pm on Dec. 8, ICA updated its Facebook post to state that the heavy departure traffic due to tailback at Woodlands Checkpoint has subsided.
