After drinking 10 cans of beer and getting into an argument at home, a 38-year-old private-hire driver decided to drive into Bedok Camp and "test the reaction of security" there.

When security did not raise the barrier for him, Muhammad Sathiq Bin Mohamed Sadakatulla drove straight through it, did a U-turn in the camp, and crashed through another barrier on his way out.

Drank 10 cans of beer, got into argument at home

Court documents indicated that the incident took place on Dec. 20, 2023, when Sathiq was working as a Gojek driver.

At 8:30pm on Dec. 19, Sathiq dropped off a passenger and bought two cans of beer from a petrol station at Ang Mo Kio.

He drank the beer at a carpark near his home, before driving to a minimart and buying four more cans of beer. After finishing the beer, he went home and got into an argument at about 2 to 3am.

The noise led to complaints and the police had to intervene. After the argument, Sathiq drove out, bought another four cans of beer and drank all of them.

Crashed through 2 barriers at Bedok Camp

Now inebriated, Sathiq decided to drive into Bedok Camp to "see the reaction of the security".

At about 6:01am, he arrived at the entry barrier leading to the Bedok Camp carpark, but security did not raise it for him.

CCTV footage captured Sathiq driving through the barrier, and continuing for about 50m in the camp before making a U-turn.

He then drove out of Bedok Camp at a high speed, crashing through an exit barrier.

This damaged the barrier and it had to be replaced afterwards.

Subsequently, Sathiq drove back to the carpark and went home, where police arrested him.

A breathalyser test conducted following his arrest showed a blood alcohol level of 36 microgrammes in 100 millimetres of breath, which is slightly above the legal alcohol limit for drivers in Singapore.

He was later released on bail on Dec. 21.

Called police officers to Geylang to 'whack' them

However, while out on bail in September 2024, Sathiq got into a fight with some police officers in Geylang.

This happened on Sep. 9, after he had drunk multiple cans of beer with a friend and went to Geylang while inebriated.

At 3am, Sathiq was outside Hotel 81 at Lorong 18 Geylang when he called the police and said he wanted to "go inside lock up" and "I want to jump down and die," among other things.

A number of police officers responded to the call.

Two of them arrived at the scene at about 3:53am and approached Sathiq to calm him down.

Sathiq head-butted one of the officers. He then slapped the other on the hand before punching him multiple times.

The officers drew their batons and asked Sathiq to lie down, to which he complied.

Both officers sustained facial injuries and were given two days of medical leave. Sathiq was arrested on Sep. 9 and has been in police custody since.

Used alcohol to cope with divorce, strained family relationship: Defence

Sathiq pleaded guilty to entering a protected place without a permit and causing hurt to two police officers.

On Dec 18, both the prosecution and the defence asked for a sentence of five months’ jail for him, The Straits Times reported.

In mitigation, the defence said that Sathiq had "a strained relationship" with his family and that his divorce "significantly impacted his well-being".

“As a way to cope with these stressors, he began consuming copious amounts of alcohol. He understands that this is no excuse for his behaviour,” the defence said. They added that Sathiq is remorseful for his actions.

The judge sentenced Sathiq to 20 weeks' jail on Dec. 18.
