It's no secret that Netflix show "Culinary Class Wars" is one of the global hits this year, with its first season being the first Korean unscripted title to rank No. 1 on the Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) list for three consecutive weeks.

Even Hong Kong screen legend Chow Yun Fat is not immune to hype, as he dined at "Culinary Class Wars" judge Ahn Sung Jae's restaurant Mosu in Hong Kong.

Yet the chef himself turned out to be an even bigger fanboy of the Hong Kong star, as Ahn revealed that Chow was the reason why he decided to open Mosu in Hong Kong.

The film legend, who has appeared in over 100 television drama series and films, was pleasantly surprised by the revelation.

Ahn watched Chow's movies growing up

In an Instagram post on Dec. 3, Ahn can be heard telling Chow, "...the reason I opened the restaurant (in Hong Kong) was because I watched your movies growing up."

In response, Chow thanked Ahn for the compliment.

"I'm not lying, this is true!" Ahn insisted.

Mosu's Instagram showed the two happily posing for a selfie together.

Other photos showed the two posing with Cantonese businessman Peter Lam, as well as with Singaporean chef Jimmy Lim.

Lim, who also runs a three Michelin-starred restaurant JL Studio, has recently collaborated with Ahn at the latter's Mosu restaurant in Hong Kong.

Surging popularity in judges and contestants' restaurants

Ever since the debut of "Culinary Class Wars" in September, the South Korean cooking competition has grown to become a global sensation on Netflix.

Contestants and judges in the show have also experienced surging interest in their restaurants following the show's debut, with even convenience stores offering products based on creations in the show.

The show revolves around 100 chefs competing in a series of challenges, with contestants being both established elite "white spoon" chefs and up-and-coming "black spoon" chefs.

"Culinary Class Wars" is confirmed to have a second season following its debut season's success.
