Silver zones are stretches of road in Singapore with "enhanced safety features", where motorists are expected to slow down and pay more attention to their surroundings.

But for one motorcyclist riding in a silver zone at Teck Whye Lane in Choa Chu Kang, he chose to go off-road, mounting a road divider to overtake a car.

Footage of this unusual sight was shared to the "SG Road Vigilante" Facebook group on Dec. 11.

Went off-road to overtake on single-lane road

The video's caption indicated that the incident took place on Dec. 10.

Dashcam footage from a car showed that it was driving along a single-lane road at Teck Whye Lane, behind a taxi.

The car's rearview footage showed a man on a white dirt bike approaching it from behind.

As the car slowed down at a road hump, the rider did not follow suit.

Instead, without signalling, he mounted the road divider and overtook the car.

The rider was not done yet.

He also swerved around the taxi to overtake it before it could reach the junction ahead.

This caused the taxi to brake abruptly, before forming up behind the rider to turn left.

Mixed reactions from online users

Teck Whye Lane is classified as a silver zone.

These are located in areas of Singapore with high proportions of senior residents and in areas near amenities frequented by seniors.

Silver zones have enhanced road safety measures for the safety of senior pedestrians crossing the roads, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

These zones also have reduced speed limits of 30 to 40 km/h.

According to Singapore's traffic regulations, it is an offence to overtake along narrow roads or near a traffic junction.

Some commenters criticised the motorcyclist for not obeying traffic rules in a silver zone.

Others admired his creativity in going off-road and dubbed him a "Motocross rider".
