A man who wanted to sterilise his baby stroller placed it on the window ledge on the 10th floor of an HDB block in Choa Chu Kang.

Part of the stroller was on an aircon compressor.

Neighbours who spotted the act were shocked by the sight and worried that it would be a safety hazard to passers-by on the ground floor, given that it was rather bulky and left in a precarious position, reported Shin Min Daily News.

"A safety hazard to others"

In an interview with Shin Min, a housewife named Cai (transliteration), 50, said it was the first time she had seen someone place such a sizeable item outside the window.

It was common for residents to dry smaller and lighter items, such as pillows, but none as large as this, she added.

Another neighbour, Zhang (transliteration), 39, echoed her sentiments and thought such an act was "rather dangerous" to others.

"The stroller is quite heavy. If it accidentally fell and hit someone all the way from the 10th floor, that would be quite disastrous," said Zhang, though he noted that the problem of high-rise littering was not common at their block.

It's 'common physics knowledge' heavy objects won't get blown off: Resident

When a Shin Min reporter interviewed the man who had placed the stroller on the edge, he said that he had picked up the stroller from a rubbish chute the day before and wanted to put it in the sun to dry and sterilise it before donating it to those in need.

The man, who did not want to be named, acknowledged his neighbours' concerns, claiming that he had tied the stroller with a rope to prevent it from falling.

In addition, he said the surface of the compressor was flat, reducing its chances of falling.

He also claimed that heavier objects are "less likely to be blown off" the ledge.

"This is common physics knowledge," he stated.

He also said he had placed shoes and trolleys on the window ledge without any incident.

However, as it worried his neighbours, the man's family removed it to avoid controversy.
