A male cat in Yishun named Ash has become the talk of the neighbourhood after he continuously locked himself out of the house, apparently on purpose.

In a TikTok video shared on Dec. 12, Ash's owners captured a scene of him executing his lockout, labelling it his "scam tactics".

His owner, who spoke to Mothership, said that several neighbours had noticed the Siamese cat sitting stranded in the same spot, frequently meowing as if to call for help.

Pushes door closed, locks himself out, calls for help

According to his owner, Ash is reportedly six to seven years old and is an adopted rescue cat, who came from a shelter in 2023.

In the 30-second clip, Ash could be seen stranded in between the unit's main door and the gate.

The video then cuts to the reveal - instead of being locked out by his owners, Ash had done it himself.

Another cat resting on the floor watches on as Ash executed his lockout.

Ash positioned himself in the space behind the main door and the wall, which was initially open, before pushing the door.

As the door was closing, Ash hurriedly slid into the space between the main door and gate, and waited for it to close, thereby leaving him "trapped".

While his owner told Mothership that they "typically" check on Ash and their other three cats, there had been one time where they couldn't find him anywhere until he was finally discovered behind the door.

Antics are nothing new to family, but has an "endearing side"

The Siamese cat has built up quite a reputation with his antics after being adopted.

"He's a bit mischievous, always eager to disturb and chase his three other siblings," his owner said.

However, they added that he also has an "endearing side", and loves to stay close to his owners whenever they come home from work.

On preventing Ash from locking himself out again, his owner said that they don't have any immediate plans as they had "always taken great care" to ensure that the cats are safe and secure at home before going to bed.

"Our house is thoughtfully designed and thoroughly cat-proofed to provide them with a safe and comfortable environment where they can freely explore without any risks," his owner said.

The owner added that they are "very thankful" to have close relationships with their neighbours who help to keep a lookout.
