Bedok cat going down 3 floors of stairs needs to sit down for 1 minute before continuing
Relatable.
Are you not used to using the stairs owing to your sedentary lifestyle?
Well, you're not alone.
A community cat in the Bedok Reservoir area was also apparently not used to using the stairs when it was coaxed down a block of flats by a resident one day.
In a video posted to the Sayang Our Singapore's Community Cats Facebook group, the tabby cat was seen plonking itself on its bum at the top of the stairs to have a seat mid-way down, as if to catch a breather.
Maressa, the woman who posted the clip, could be heard giggling off-camera at the cat's antics, as she said: "Look at his pose. He's so cute."
The cat looked back at her as if wondering what was wrong with having a rest after three flights of stairs.
In an extended 3-minute 45-second version of the clip, the cat was seen taking a seat again a second time, apparently after climbing down another floor.
In total, he sat down for more than one minute before resuming the trek back to the ground floor.
The first time round he sat down, he slow-blinked once to Maressa, which is the cat's way of saying, "I love you. Please. But I need to sit."
Cat found in estate in 2018
Speaking to Mothership, Maressa said she calls the grey community cat "Eeyore".
According to her, she found him in the estate in December 2018.
At that time when he was discovered, he was skittish, very vocal and skinny without markings, she said.
A photo of Eeyore when he was found showed him hiding in the drain.
Over time, that has changed as the cat lover and community cat have bonded.
"He's old now, but the tail, the little chin fur and his voice and mannerisms remain," she explained.
Cat well-loved by residents
This was the second time Eeyore had sat down while using the stairs, she revealed.
It was the first time the cat followed Maressa home, however, and he showed signs of being a previously indoor cat as he was comfortable in a home setting.
Asked if she was aware that Eeyore was abandoned, Maressa said: "Honestly, I'm not sure. He was very comfortable in my house, at least I know he knows what being an indoor cat is like. He chose to sit on my sofa and chill on my chair."
Maressa added that on previous occasions, Eeyore would just follow her to the lift.
The resident said she has seen others in the estate interacting with the cat in the same way.
She added that she is unable to take in Eeyore at the moment as her home has a balcony and it is not fully meshed.
While adopting Eeyore might be ideal, he currently has two regular feeders, according to Maressa.
"He is loved by many and our neighbours always stop to say 'Hi' to him. And he has a calico cat girlfriend," she added.
