Cats stranded amid severe floods in Malaysia

As Malaysia grapples with its worst flooding disaster in a decade, more than 122,000 people have been displaced, with experts warning that the crisis could worsen in the coming weeks as torrential downpours shows no signs of letting up.

Many pets have been abandoned in homes as families are forced to evacuate, heightening concerns over the welfare of animals in the affected regions.

Countless animals, particularly pets, are left stranded and helpless in the floodwaters, desperately needing rescue.

A recent report by the New Straits Times highlighted a cat shelter in Kota Bharu, where approximately 400 cats were trapped by the rising waters.

A growing number of individuals are stepping up to help such as a Malaysian who has shared several videos documenting his efforts to rescue stranded cats in flood-hit areas on TikTok.

In his clips, the rescuer was seen navigating treacherous waters, rescuing cats from perilous situations, such as those trapped in shop grills or stranded in high water levels, waiting for either the waters to recede or for humans to come to their aid.
