3 bicycles left on Commonwealth Ave road supposedly as 'prank'
It apparently caused a driver to brake hard to avoid hitting them.
While driving along Commonwealth Avenue in the early hours of Dec. 20, a private-hire vehicle (PHV) driver noticed that his path was blocked by a row of bicycles.
Caught off guard, he jammed on the brakes so hard that his passenger spilled his takeaway food all over the car.
The incident was shared on Facebook by another PHV driver.
"Such a dangerous prank!" she wrote.
In a photo shared in the post, three bicycles, which appeared to be from at least two bike-sharing fleets, could be seen arranged in a neat row across the road on all three lanes.
The bicycles were apparently put up as obstructions next to a bus stop outside Queens Condo, down the road from Queenstown MRT station.
Taxi driver hit bicycle
While the PHV driver managed to move two bicycles off the road, a taxi apparently collided into the last bicycle.
"The taxi driver drove off without stopping to check what did he hit, probably in shock," Lim wrote about the apparent act of mischief.
In the comments section, other drivers expressed alarm and encouraged her to make a police report.
One pointed out that such a prank could "endanger one's life", especially if a motorcyclist were to collide into the stationary bicycles at high speed.
"Singaporeans cannot have nice things," another said.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
Mothership has reached out to the relevant parties for more information.
