Woman, 24, arrested for suspected loan shark harassment in Bras Basah & Yishun
The woman will be charged in court on Nov. 22, 2024.
A 24-year-old woman in Singapore was arrested on Nov. 20 for her suspected involvement loan shark harassment.
A police statement said the police were alerted to two separate incidents on Nov. 8 and 9 along Waterloo Street and Yishun Avenue 6.
The debtors had their main gates locked with bicycle locks.
Debtor's notes were also left at their gates.
A photo provided showed a note found at the Yishun Avenue 6 unit, which read: "Owe Money Pay Money. Still don't want find me?? Auntie you better help settle if not you see what I do again."
A similar note was found at the residential unit located at Waterloo Street.
It read: "Owe money pay money. You better come and looking tom. This is just a warning".
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is believed to be involved in "several similar cases" islandwide.
Will be charged in court on Nov. 22
The woman was identified through follow-up investigations, images from police cameras and officers from the Woodlands Police Division.
The woman will be charged in court on Nov. 22 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, loanshark harassment carries a fine between S$5,000 and S$50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.
