Trump on brink of US presidency as he wins Georgia's 16 electoral votes
270 Electoral Votes are needed to win.
Republican candidate Donald Trump is on the brink of victory in the 2024 United States presidential election, as the Associated Press calls North Carolina for the former president.
AP now has Trump on 247 electoral votes, with 270 EVs needed to secure victory. Georgia has 16 EVs.
His opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris is on 214 EVs as of 2.20pm (Singapore time), but now needs come-from-behind wins in almost all of the other five "swing" states.
AP said that its call was based on Trump's lead being about 125,000 votes, larger than what Harris could reasonably expect to overhaul.
With five swing states left to contest, outlets such as The New York Times are all but certain of Harris' defeat.
The final pertinent result looks likely to be Pennsylvania, with 93 per cent of the vote having been counted.
