4 men to be charged for serious traffic offences causing grievous hurt

Two men, aged 42 and 64, will be charged in court on Nov. 13, 2024, with dangerous driving causing grievous hurt.

Both drivers had allegedly failed to stop at a red light prior to colliding with another road user.

Another two men, aged 34 and 55, will be charged on the same day with driving without reasonable consideration, causing grievous hurt.

The 34-year-old had allegedly collided with a motorcyclist while making a right turn, while the 55-year-old had collided with a cyclist while making a lane change.

"The Traffic Police takes a serious view of those who drive in a manner that endangers their safety and that of other road users," the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said.

Failed to stop at red light

On Sep. 14, 2024, a 64-year-old male lorry driver allegedly failed to stop at the red light along Jurong Town Hall Road towards West Coast Road, resulting in a collision with a motorcycle that had the right of way.

The motorcyclist subsequently sustained grievous injuries.

The lorry driver will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt under Section 64(2A)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

On Apr. 16, 2023, a 42-year-old male driver allegedly failed to stop at the red light along New Bridge Road towards Kampong Bahru Road, resulting in a collision with another car that had the right of way:

The driver of the other car and the two passengers in the alleged offender’s car sustained grievous injuries.

Both drivers will be charged with dangerous driving causing grievous hurt under Section 64(2A)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

The offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt carries a jail term between one and five years and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a jail term between two and ten years and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

Driving without reasonable consideration

On Mar. 11, 2024, a 55-year-old man was allegedly making a lane change along Sims Avenue East when his car collided with a cyclist who was travelling straight along the road.

The cyclist sustained grievous injuries.

On Jan. 18, 2024, a 34-year-old man was driving his car along Hougang Avenue 9 when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right turn.

Both drivers will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration, causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

The offence of driving without reasonable consideration and causing grievous hurt carries a fine of up to S$5,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both.

In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a fine of up to S$10,000, a jail term of up to four years, or both.
